Amniocentesis, also called AFT or amniotic fluid test, is a medical procedure used in prenatal diagnosis of fetal infections and chromosomal abnormalities, and also for the determination of sex, in which a small amount of amniotic fluid containing fetal tissues is sampled from the amniotic sac which surround a developing fetus, after which the doctor would examine the fetal DNA for genetic abnormalities.
