The medical consultation of the 8th month

This is the second last appointment with your practitioner, the exams remain the same. Third-trimester ultrasound also monitors the growth and morphology of your child. You now need to speed up your preparation for childbirth and avoid getting too far from maternity.

Ultrasound scan of the third quarter

Mom's exam is identical to previous months. The physician examines the maternal pelvis and verifies its normality, ie it ensures that the baby's head can pass through this narrow channel formed by the bones of the pelvis. The uterine height becomes large, about 30 cm.

Preparing for childbirth

The baby's well-being is controlled: its active movements, its activity and heart rate, its position in the womb, the amount of amniotic fluid ...

Pregnancy and transportation

Weight and blood pressure are particularly measured. You took about 10 pounds. Your tension remains normal (ie rather low, which is normal in the pregnant woman).

The physician prescribes to the future mother the biological examinations necessary for the consultation of anesthesia (obligatory, we will talk about it in the 9th month).

Ultrasound of the third trimester usually occurs at 31-33 weeks of amenorrhea (31-33 weeks after the last menstrual period). This ultrasound is said to be "well-being fetal."

Your doctor measures baby and checks his growth on reference curves. All organs are reviewed and complete the morphological study of the 5th month. The speed of blood circulation in the cord and in the baby's brain is calculated.

The amount of amniotic fluid is less. Baby has less room and therefore moves less. The members are more difficult to see because they are folded and can not be distinguished in their entirety.

You should keep the record carefully.

You know where you are going to give birth, and the places you are now familiar with. You follow or have followed a preparation for childbirth. Do not forget to practice at home regularly according to the method proposed by the midwife who took care of these courses.

If the doctor who is following your pregnancy is not your obstetrician, you must have an appointment with the obstetrician at least once during the 9th month (in some maternities you will see a midwife). You must also have an anesthesia consultation in the same facility. This consultation is mandatory, even if you do not wish to benefit from an epidural. On the one hand in the event that you change your mind and on the other hand, should the medical team be obliged to resort to general emergency anesthesia (emergency cesarean section, forceps ...)

During this individual appointment of about fifteen minutes, the anesthesiologist performs an interrogation and a medical examination. He checks the blood tests you have performed before coming to see him. He explains the different techniques of anesthesia, especially epidural anesthesia. No special preparation is required. Take advantage of this interview to ask all your questions. He will ask you to perform a new blood test.

Now talk about long-distance or repeated car transport. Avoid starting too far away from maternity or you will give birth.
