In order for the doctor to see what the cause is of endometriosis, they are going to do the following:

  • Perform a pelvic exam
  • Speak to you about any medical conditions that may run in the family

Defining a Laparoscopy

A laparoscopy is a surgical procedure. Doctors use this so that they can diagnose their patients and treat them for endometriosis. If your doctor makes a recommendation for a laparoscopy, it is for the purpose of seeing and removing any scar tissue or implants. This is a test that isn't always needed. This may be done when a rapid treatment is needed for infertility. Surgery may be needed or treatment depending on what the doctors come across.

Ovarian Cysts

If your doctor has done a diagnosis and feels that there is an abnormal mass after they have performed a pelvic exam, there is a chance that you have a cyst on the ovary or you have another problem. There may be a chance that you need a CT scan or a transvaginal ultrasound.
