Symptomatic treatment of osteoarthritis pain

Mode of administration

Oral use.

The tablets should be swallowed as such with a drink (eg water, milk, fruit juice).

Caution: this presentation contains 1000 mg of paracetamol per unit: do not take 2 units at a time

This presentation is reserved for adults and children, from 50 kg (about 15 years).
In children, it is imperative to respect the dosages defined according to the weight of the child and thus to choose a suitable presentation. The approximate ages according to weight are given for information purposes.

The recommended daily dose of paracetamol is approximately 60 mg / kg / day, divided into 4 or 6 doses, ie approximately 15 mg / kg every 6 hours or 10 mg / kg every 4 hours. >

The usual unit dose is one tablet at 1000 mg per dose, to be renewed in case of need after a minimum of 4 hours.
It is generally not necessary to exceed 3g of paracetamol per day, or 3 tablets per day.
However, in case of more intense pain, the maximum dosage may be increased, up to 4g (4 tablets) per day. Always respect a 4 hour interval between the catches.

Frequency, Administration

Systematic catches avoid oscillations of pain or fever

· In the child, they must be regularly spaced, including at night, preferably 6 hours, and at least 4 hours

· In adults, they must be spaced at least 4 hours apart

Renal insufficiency

In the case of renal insufficiency, severe (creatinine clearance, less than 10 ml / min), the interval between the two should be increased to a minimum of 8 hours.

Do not exceed 3g of paracetamol per day, that is 3 tablets.

The lowest effective daily dose should be considered, but not more than 60 mg / kg / day (without exceeding 3 g / day) in the following situations

· Adults under 50 kg

· Mild to moderate hepatocellular insufficiency

· Chronic alcoholism

· Chronic malnutrition

· Dehydration.

Recommended maximum doses

In children less than 40 kg, the total dose of paracetamol should not exceed 80 mg / kg / day (see section 4.3). >
In children aged between 41 and 50 kg, the total dose of paracetamol should not exceed 3 g per day (see section 4.3).

Studies in animals have shown no evidence of teratogenic or foetotoxic effects of paracetamol.

At therapeutic doses, the administration of this medication is possible during breastfeeding.

A few cases of hypersensitivity reactions such as anaphylactic shock, angioedema, erythema, urticaria, skin rash have been reported. Their occurrence requires the definitive discontinuation of this medicinal product and related medicinal products.
